What are these Mission Teams All About?
Classes are randomly divided into equal numbers and they have a friendly competition to determine which team – Green, Blue, or Red – earns the most points and then those teams serve in local and international missions! It is a creative way to get children involved in community activities supporting local and international missions. What it is not - spending money for families... Crazy Hair day is as easy as not brushing it or parting it crazy, Safari/Jungle tourist could be items around the house like a hat and sunglasses, leis, brown shirts and shorts. Nothing needs to be purchased. We also collect pantry items and school supplies in the same spirit. The way kids can get the most points for their Missions Teams? Attendance, bringing a bible, saying their memory verse, all of those are HUGE!!
These are the ways kids earn daily points:
• Offering Collection (coin deposits are behind the color group rows and 100% of donation goes to children sponsored through Compassion International)
• # of students in attendance (100 pts each)
• # of students who brought their Bible to class (100 pts each)
• # of students who say their Memory Verse (200 pts each)
• # of students who participate in the “Daily Special”
• # of first time friends (500 pts each)

The Daily Specials are as follows:
Friday Wear Your Team Color (100 pts), Bring School Supplies for Come and Get It School Supply Pick Up (100 pts)

Thursday Grownups Devotion

Today in VBS your kids are going to be learning about confusion. Confusion is not a word that has a positive perspective. I don’t know about you, but I do not like being confused.  Unfortunately, I get confused quite often, especially when I’m driving. My wife can attest that I am one of the worst directionally minded people. Nothing aggravates me more than getting lost knowing I’m only 5 to 10 minutes away from home. And believe me it happens quite a bit.

One of your child’s memory verses is Genesis 11:9. “That is why it was called Babel because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.”

The context of this verse is that the Lord gave explicit instructions for his people to be fruitful and spread across the Earth according to Genesis 9:1. However, the people of Genesis did the opposite. They stayed together and try to create an experience of worshiping God on their own terms. This is a direct disobedience to the Lord. Because of their disobedience -- their lives not only got confusing but messy.

We have our own issues and problems that we go through daily. When we were following God, the path and direction that we should take becomes clear. But when we try to follow our own understanding and not the Lord's -- life can get messy and confusing. One of my favorite verses is Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

When we trust in God, our path is made clear. When we don’t or when we try to do it by ourselves, we become more confused. The purpose of this devotion is to challenge you to look to the Lord for guidance. He loves you enough to send His only begotten son to die on a cross so that you aren’t separated from Him, and you have an eternal relationship with Him. When we trust in Him, we grow in our relationship. We won’t have confusion; we will have clarity.
