THE FIRST STEP

IT STARTS
WITH
"HELLO."

The Road to Relationship begins with a simple idea: before we can meaningfully share the hope of Jesus with our neighbors, we need to take the time to truly know them.

God has already placed people around us in our neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, kids' activities, and everyday routines. The goal isn't to make people a project. It's to be intentional about knowing them, caring for them, and building genuine relationships.

As we begin doing life together, opportunities for deeper conversations, sharing the hope of Jesus, and inviting someone to church can grow naturally out of relationships built on trust and care.

MONTHLY PRACTICALS

RELATIONSHIPS
TAKE TIME.

Over the next three months, we want to help you take simple, intentional steps toward the people God has already placed around you. This isn't a three month program with a finish line. And it isn't a checklist for getting someone to church. The goal is relationship.

BE PRESENT. LEARN NAMES. LISTEN TO STORIES. SHARE LIFE. BUILD TRUST.

Along the way, opportunities to talk about faith, share the Gospel, invite someone to church, or welcome them into community may happen naturally. When they do, step into them. But don't rush the relationship to get there. These next three months are simply a place to start.

October is the active month. Use the circles or arrows to switch.

OCTOBER

MEET

START BY BEING PRESENT.

Halloween gives us one of the best opportunities of the year to meet the people who live around us. Instead of staying inside and waiting for the doorbell to ring, take the party outside. Set up some chairs. Grab plenty of candy. Invite a few friends or your Small Group. Then simply meet people.

No agenda. No sales pitch. Just be present, learn some names, start some conversations, and be a good neighbor.

TRY THIS

  • Set up a fire pit and make s’mores.
  • Project a football or baseball game on the garage.
  • Put cornhole or yard games out.
  • Grill hot dogs and offer them to people passing by.
  • Hand out lots of candy.
  • Most importantly: talk to people you don't know.

KEEP THE GOAL IN MIND

  • DON’T FORCE A GOSPEL CONVERSATION.
  • DON’T HAND OUT EVANGELISTIC MATERIAL.
  • DON’T TURN PEOPLE INTO A PROJECT.
  • BUILD RELATIONSHIPS.

WHAT DOES A WIN LOOK LIKE?

The win isn’t “How many people did I invite to church or have a spiritual conversation with?”

  • Did I meet someone new?
  • Did I learn a neighbor’s name?
  • Did I hear part of their story?
  • Did we create a reason to connect again?

IF SO, THAT’S A WIN.

MAKE YOUR PLAN

WHO HAS GOD PLACED
AROUND YOU?

Before thinking about what you should do, take a few minutes to think about who God has already placed in your path.

01

WHO ARE MY NEIGHBORS?

Think beyond the houses immediately beside you. Who do you regularly encounter in your neighborhood, workplace, school, gym, kids' activities, or other everyday spaces?

02

WHO MIGHT GOD BE ASKING ME TO PURSUE INTENTIONALLY?

Of the people you listed, are there one or two people you sense God prompting you to know better?

03

WHAT IS THEIR STORY?

What do you already know about them: their family, work, interests, struggles, hopes, or season of life? What could you learn simply by spending time together and listening?

04

WHERE ARE THEY SPIRITUALLY?

Do they know Jesus? Are they connected to a local church? If you don't know, consider that an invitation to keep building the relationship.

START SIMPLE.

  • KNOW THEIR NAME.
  • LEARN THEIR STORY.
  • SHARE LIFE TOGETHER.
  • LOOK FOR OPPORTUNITIES TO
    SHARE JESUS.

SHARE YOUR STORY

SHARE
WHAT'S
HAPPENING

We want to hear how it’s going. Maybe you finally learned a neighbor’s name, a conversation turned into dinner, or a friend said yes to joining you on Sunday. Every step matters. Share what you’re experiencing and how you’re seeing God at work along the way. Together, we can celebrate what He’s doing and encourage one another to keep building meaningful relationships with the people around us.
